How Do You Beat Basic Attack Carries?

Feenyx's picture

I play as Sevarog and have a very hard time beating basic attack carries (Twinblast, Sparrow and Murdock). They just have too much consistent damage and by the time I can get in close and start gaining my health back with lifesteal, I'm almost dead. How do I successfully survive against basic attack carries?

@Feenyx, you are not talking about 1 vs. 1 right? Because in this case the answer I have is - you should not engage them. Even with your ability as Sevarog to dive in and stun you have nearly nothing if alone.

If you are talking abut a team fight it is all about positioning. I see Sevarog mostly as a "divide and rule" Hero. I mean you have your team at the back and the enemy team in front of you. You stun, dive in, Ult one enemy into your team and then retreat back.

@Feenyx, Sevarog is not really a damage dealer, he is more of a team disruptor and tank. Sevarog will most likely lose fights against carries because his role is not so much as to fight but as a disruptive tank. Put him in a team fight and he provides so much utility and an ultimate that can turn around team fights. If your looking deal more damage while having a little bit of tankiness, I suggest you give Feng Mao a couple of games. He has a nice dash and a slow to keep the carries in range of your attacks. Feng Mao generally deals more damage and can deal a significant amount of damage with his ultimate. Although not as crowd control heavy as Sevarog, Feng Mao is an excellent jungler. So to beat a basic attack carry, watch your positioning and take a hero that has a gap close and can deal a decent amount of damage. Hope this helps!

@Feenyx, I agree with what the others are saying, takes are not supposed to win 1v1 fights, they are about team fights and keeping the focus on them while their damage dealers deal the damage. What makes sevarog so different from others is that he has a good amount of CC for peeling just as much as for initiating. Most people are wanting to build damage on tanks, or use their ability to dive in. The diving in is not the wrong way, but its not the only way. You also have to take into consideration what the enemy team is and if they keep going in onto your team. And if that is the case, its best to use your ability to peel for your carries. And Sevarog is amazing for that, with his AOE root, and ult to knock them away, he is a carry best friend.

You also have to realize that you don't always have to be up there to do damage, Some times the best thing you can do is just stand between you and your carry, so you are taking all the hits. You should always try to be the focus of their attention, and take as many hits as you can.

I see many people build attack speed and damage on him, and I don't understand why. You should build tanky, armor/health/CDR (cool down reduction). I am not saying throw out all damage items, just that when you do have a damage item, make sure it has some sort of tank stat as well and focus mainly on the tank part. So at least two upgrade cards for the tank stats.

@Feenyx, Sevarog can go either way tank/fighter. It just depends on your deck and play style. If you want to be up in ADCers faces, you have to build against them. You're not going to survive long enough if you built into a fighter build unless you have team support. Also, keep in mind that I suggest you always jungle!!! Those last hits are important and you want to get your stacks really quick so you become tanky early game. My suggestion to you is build 250-400 of energy AND physical defense!!! The rest of the build is up to you. You'll notice that they don't crit nearly as often old nearly as much.

I use armor (energy or physical) against them and i don't engage them unless they are low life or if i can push them under my tower (with my ultimate)
